The story opens to find a random group of strangers drawn together by fate. Each of them had come to the small town of Brindol in the Elsir Vale for the annual Diamond League Day festival to relax and enjoy in the celebration of the Diamond League – a group of adventurers who delivered the Elsir Vale from the clutches of a brutal war with an army of goblinoids and kobalds known as the Red Hand of Doom.
As each adventurer sat in the Antler and Thistle tavern enjoying their ale the peace of the day was shatter by a band of goblins and hobgoblins. The goblinoid raiders charged into the bar knocking over tables and terrorizing patrons. Instinctively the would-be heroes lept into battle and beat down the invaders only to find more trouble brewing outside in the streets of Brindol. After a touch-and-go battle with more hobgoblins and an ogre the uprising was over.
Impressed by their natural ability to work as a team, a member of the Brindol Town council named Eoffram Troyas summoned this rag-tag band of adventurers to his chambers in search of their help. Troyas explained that during the attacks a handful of citizens had been kidnapped by the goblinoids as well as some of the towns artifacts from the Red Hand War. The town guards were spread thin following the attacks and the council could ill afford to send any guards on a rescue and recovery mission. Troyas offered the group a reward if they would agree to hunt down and bring to justice these goblinoids and return the citizens and the artifacts unharmed.
